Shirley: Her Service, Her Impact & Her Legacy

October 6 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
The Arts & Letters Committee will be discussing the The Netflix drama “Shirley” which highlights the invaluable contributions of Soror Chisholm. Her bold and unwavering quest for justice has positioned and created many opportunities for African American women seeking political offices and appointments. We will discuss Soror Shirley’s service as a trailblazing political powerhouse, her impact and how she has paved the way for so many women and men of color. She was the first black woman elected to Congress and the first black candidate for a major party nomination. As this is an election year, Soror and Superior Court Judge Tonia Cutchin from the Greensboro Alumnae Chapter will be the facilitator for the discussion. We will take a deeper dive into how Soror Chisholm’s courage over 50 years ago is still relevant and impacting the 2024 election.
The event is open to the public and attendees must register using the link provided.
